Photographic paper, wood, and nails. 45" x 22" x 20". 2024.
The Intractable was a work that was purely motivated by aesthetics, play, and experimentation. I created photograms in a dark room that were inspired by the works of surrealist photographers Man Ray and Raoul Ubac. I put each of my finished prints through a destructive process of cutting, burning, melting, and sanding to alter their surface and bring the flat paper into the three-dimensional. I created a wooden woven sculpture to mount my prints on and secured each strip of photo paper in place with nails.
