the space between us (TSBU) is an exploration of flesh, distance, and the reclamation of nature. Inspired by the way kudzu devours landscapes and human creations. This work takes the invasive nature of the invasive plant and reclaims it as a vehicle for human connection. The fleshy form hangs from 9' feet above the ground and takes on a different form each time it is installed. TSBU is a love letter to my partner, the physical work itself is created out of flesh with the sprawl and energy produced by the kudzu plant that invades much of the Southeast, including where my partner and I grew up. We grew up .2 miles apart as the crow flies separated by the kudzu infested forest where I spent a lot of my childhood. We didn’t meet until we were adults and have been attached at the hip since that moment. TSBU is temporal and physical, heavy and impermeable.
